I am biased because I grew up here. Fantastic open space with football and rugby pitches in winter and baseball diamonds and cricket wickets in summer. Enjoyed by many. Close too, to the shops and restaurants of Wellfield Road. It's a part of a strip of parkland with Waterloo Gardens to th east and the flower gardens and Roath Pary with its boating lake to the west. You can walk all the parks easily in a day.
I can say I spend most of my summer in the park this year. Lovely ground and grasses. But this summer was quite hot and dry. Park was still nice. People making BBQ, children playing football or rugby, spending time together. Me and my husband lie down on the grass. Reading book and get fresh air.
Beautiful park, with loads to see and do for the whole family and not far from the centre! Escape from the hustle and bustle for a bit to go feed the ducks, play on the park or get a coffee at the caf. Stunning every time of year, especially summer when there is boat and pedlo hire on the lake!! Don't miss out, check it out
SATURDAY Not an easy place to find a parking space, had to tour around the grounds and just lucky a car had pulled out. Changing facilities good but playing surfaces pitted. Children's play area popular but just adequate. Does serve it's purpose.
As recreation grounds go this is a good one. I first visited this recreation ground in 1999, sleeping in a vehicle as I was lost in Cardiff. i later lived near by and made much use of its grassy expanse. Now has a great little playground for children and is close to Wellfield road meaning a great selection of pastry based snacks and ice cream are available.
