I love history and nature and this cemetery was able to fulfil both in just one walk. Dating back to 1859 this vastVictoriancemetery is the third biggest in the UK. As we walked in through the gates, Iwas captivated by thegothic style chapels and I hadn't realised just how big this cemetery was. There is plenty of notableintermentshere if youare interestedin history and a conservation area to encourage wildlife. We sat on a bench for a while to take in our surroundings and funnily enough it isquitea tranquil place which is not a word I thought I would ever use to describe a cemetery..
Great cemetery close to the dead centre of town.Shame to see some of the writing on the tombstones is wonky, not saying the person responsible should be sentenced to death but a stiff word might be needed.Some of the grave diggers seem to be worryingly overweight but this is probably just due to the cemetery lifestyle. I think they should take better care themselves or they'll be prone to coffin fits.Wish I could of stayed longer but had to go home and give the cat a comb.
The one side of thus cemetry is well kept and looked after the other is appauling the grass us overgrown you cannot see the head stones and the graves are sunken you cannot see where you are walking its a health risk especially for young children visiting loved ones .
Beautiful cemetery for enjoyable quiet walks.
Interesting place to go for a walk, rain or shine, in the middle of Cardiff. Very calming and a good place to clear the head. Beautifully maintained. Free street parking all around the perimeter.
